To increase yield and temperature characteristics.
This alloy provides greater material strength without sacrificing Tantalum's fabricating abilities or its important corrosion resistance qualities.
Alloying 40% Niobium (columbium) generally retains the corrosion resistance of tantalum and provides higher mechanical properties. Niobium (Columbium) is also available in alloys containing tantalum, tungsten, molybdenum, vanadium, hafnium, zirconium, or carbon. Alloys provide improved tensile, yield, and creep properties, particularly in the 1,100 to 1,650°C range.
